Where Should You Go for an Orthopedic Injury?

If you think you have a potentially life-threatening injury or condition, do not go to an urgent care center or walk-in clinic. Call 911 or go immediately to your nearest hospital emergency department.

Urgent Care

For orthopedic injuries, some situations call for the ER, but many can be seen at an OnPoint Urgent Care.  Here’s a quick guide to help you get the right level of care without an unnecessary ER visit.

  • Suspected fractures with no visible bone
  • Moderate to severe sprains and strains
  • Finger, toe, or kneecap dislocations
  • Tendon and ligament injuries
  • Acute back or neck strain
  • Sports and activity-related injuries
  • Swollen, stiff, or painful joints
  • Splint, cast, or brace concerns

Emergency Department

If you believe you have a serious or life-threatening injury, you should call 911 or go to your nearest ER. Examples of emergent conditions may include:

  • Open (bone through skin) or compound (multiple locations and severe deformity) fractures
  • Injuries with loss of sensation, numbness, or circulation below the injury site
  • High-impact trauma (car accident, rollovers, significant fall more than 5-6 feet in height)
  • Spine or neck injuries with neurological symptoms
  • Severe joint deformity or dislocation
  • Severe swelling with pain out of proportion to the injury
  • Orthopedic injury accompanied by head trauma
  • Any injury you believe may be life-threatening

Yes. We treat simple and non-displaced fractures on-site. If your fracture requires surgical intervention or is complex in nature, we will refer you to the appropriate specialist.

Yes. OnPoint treats patients of all ages. If your child has a bone, joint, or muscle injury, walk in and our physicians will evaluate and treat them on-site.

Bring a valid photo ID, your insurance card, and a list of any current medications. If you have prior imaging related to the injury, bring that as well.
