Where Should You Go When You Need Medical Care?

If you think you may have a potentially life-threatening emergency medical condition, do not go to an urgent care center or walk-in clinic. Call 911 or go immediately to your nearest hospital emergency department.

Urgent care is the right choice for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries that still need prompt attention — infections, minor fractures, sprains, lacerations, and flu symptoms, for example. Emergency rooms are reserved for life-threatening emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, severe trauma, and major respiratory distress. Urgent care is also significantly faster and less costly than an ER visit.
